ARCHBISHOP FLYNN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL LIBRARY
LIBRARY OPENING AND CLOSING TIME MONDAY-FRIDAY
The library shall operate at the following times:
7:00 am-1:30 pm (open/Day Time)
2:30 pm-5:00 pm (open/Evening session)
9:00 pm-1:00 pm (Saturday)
Note: The library shall remain closed on national and Public Holidays
LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS
- Silence must be strictly observed in the library at all times. No discussions and conversations of any kind shall be held in the library.
- Consumption of food (all kinds of edibles) and drinks is totally prohibited in the library.
- Bags, jackets, big envelopes, and overcoats are strictly not allowed in the library.
- Books borrowed by one user must not be passed on to another but must be returned to the library and re-issued from the library.
- All mobile phones should be switched off or put in silent mode while in the library, contravention of this regulation, suspension, or even expulsion as the case may be from using the library.
- No personal textbooks, newspapers, and magazines are allowed in the library. Any newspaper or magazine brought in shall be confiscated on exit.
- No books, documents, or other materials should be taken out of the library without officially borrowing them.
- Anyone caught stealing or mutilating library materials will be referred to the Disciplinary committee for further
- Children of all ages, are not allowed to use the library.
- No user shall bring personal visitors to the library without the Librarian’s permission.
- Reserving or booking seats and hiding library materials is strictly prohibited
- The library shall not hold responsible at any time for any loss or misplacement of personal belongings left in the library. You should take good care of your property.
- Unauthorized dressing as defined by the school administration is not allowed in the library.
- Books used within the library should be left on the reading tables (A user should not re-shelve the books used).
- All library users must always present their belongings (such as books, papers, folders/box files, etc.) To the staff on duty when leaving the library. These will be thoroughly checked to clear any doubts.
- Damaging library items, facilities, equipment, furniture, and identification marks relating to the location of items/books calls for a penalty.
- The Library reserves the right to reject circulation, cancel reservations, loans requests and to limit or withdraw a member’s privileges without prior notice for any reason deemed appropriate by the Library
- Books will be issued to only individuals and not to groups or areas.
- Books once issued, should not be brought inside the library unless it is to be returned.
- Newspapers and Magazines must be read only in the library on specific tables and should not be taken to any other reading areas.
- For misplaced, un-priced, gratis publications, the rate as approved by Library Committee will be applicable
- Journals (unbound issues)/Reference Books/ Reports will not be issued from the library.
- No circulation will take place from the Reference Library.
- Photocopy of Articles or Book chapters up to 30 pages from a single Book is allowed in the library on a payment basis (shs per copy).
- Defaulters, in case of delay after the permissible period of the loan, the defaulters will not be issued any publication till they clear the past account of the library.
Borrowing Library Materials
- Only users registered with the library will be allowed to borrow library material. In case the library card is issued
- Some Library collections are not for loan and are appropriately marked especially reference books, dictionaries, books in bulk, books in few copies, class workbooks, etc.
- Materials on Reserve can only be used within the library except when an overnight or weekend loan has been approved.
- No user shall take a book out of the Library unless it is properly issued. All persons leaving the Library must present their belongings for inspection at the exit.
- Late returns of borrowed books shall attract a penalty at a rate to be determined from time to time.
- The Librarian in charge shall reserve the right to recall a book on loan. These books shall be returned within the shortest time possible and a fine shall be charged for any inexplicable delay.
- Students have to bear the Identity Card for entering and borrowing the books from the Library
Damage & Loss of Library Materials
Any user who causes damage to library materials or other property will foot the cost of repair.
Users will be held responsible for any material lost while in their custody and will be required to foot the cost of replacement. Lost books once recovered will remain the property of the Library; monies charged for replacement will not be refunded.
RESEARCH SCHOLARS/RESEARCH ASSOCIATES.
A maximum of 08 (Ten) books will be issued to a member for a period of Six months from the date of issue.
A maximum of 04 (Six) books will be issued to a Research Scholar/Research Associate for a period of Three months from the date of issue.
A fine per day/ per book will be levied/ charged for the delay of books.
Loss/damage/disfiguring/tearing of pages of Library books, twice the prevailing cost of the book (as replacement cost) will be charged in case of non-replacement fines till the date of replacement of book/ submission of book replacement cost will be applicable, barring few exceptions*
So, ensure you are not receiving any such book else report it to the library staff. Fines till reporting date (in writing) will be applicable.
STAFFS
A maximum of 03 (three) books will be issued to a Staff member for a period of One month from the date of issue.
A maximum of 06 (Ten) books will be issued to a Staff member having the rank equivalent to that of the Director for a maximum of Six Months from the date of issue.
On discontinuity/cessation of services, obtain ‘No clearance’ from the Library.
STUDENTS
A maximum of 04 (four) books will be issued to a student for a month from the date of issue.
A fine will be levied/ charged for the delay of books.
In case of loss/damage/disfiguring/tearing of pages of Library books, the student will be charged twice the prevailing cost of the book. So, ensure you are not receiving any such book else report it to the library staff.
On completion of O level or A level report to the library for clearance.
* Person not an employee of this school but is associated with a project will have to provide an undertaking from his/her Project Investigator and Director director of studies
* Anyone who violates the rules and regulations of the library would be liable to lose the privilege of Library Membership. The Librarian, with the approval of the school administrators reserves the right to add, delete, alter or modify any of the above rules as and when required.
