“Developing young entrepreneurs”
Background
Business department is a department that covers commerce, principles of accounts and entrepreneurship education. It was started way back in 2009 with only one teacher (Mr. Okello Sam) and only 36 students offering commerce. Currently it has expanded in to a larger department with four teachers and over 400 students offering business subjects at different level with diverse techniques of imparting knowledge and skills on to students.
The department is being headed by Mr. Okello Simon Ongaya with other three members that is, Mr. Okidi Phillips, Mr. Onen Can Michael and Mr. Watmon Geoffrey, amongst which there are four examiners.

Our Goals To achieve a hundred percent practical skills by the end of 4 years cycle of O’Level or 2 years of A’Level.

In addition to classroom activities, the department carries out the following activities, which include; school business club, field study and project works.
The School Business Club
The department boost of a functioning business club that teaches students practical applicability of the subject. The club is operated by the students under the guidance of the club patron Mr. Onen Can Michael and the head of department Mr. Okello Simon Ongaya. The products produced by the school business club include the following; Multipurpose home-use liquid soap, hardcore bread, daddies, chapatti, chips, party cakes, body jelly, etc.

Field Study
This is a form of study where a business site is selected and learners are taken to gather relevant information about the business. It is a requirement for all the students from Senior three to senior six. We normally take students to industries, farms, research institutes and commercial places like Lira, Gulu, Kampala, Jinja, Mbale, Fort Portal, Mbarara, etc.

Project Works
This is an on-site activity done for a particular period of time. In this study, a learner is given a task and at the end, he/she is required to come up with a marketable product (output) which is to be completed within a given period of time. It is a requirement for lower secondary school curriculum (competence based curriculum). The learner is required to do this project once in a cycle and the time is arranged by the subject teacher.
The Achievement So Far Made by the Department
The department has achieved but not limited to the following;
- Introduction of more business subjects that is, principles of accounts and entrepreneurship education.
- Increase in the man power that is, from one teachers to four teachers.
- Increase in the number of learners from 36 in 2009 to over 400 students.
- Introduction of activities beyond classroom settings which include field study, project works and school business club.
- Continuous outstanding performance in the business subjects.
- Business teachers capacity building
Conclusion
Business is one of the thing that a child can take as a career or side source of income.
