DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
Welcome to the Physics Department at Archbishop Secondary School, a place where students discover the wonders of the physical world and embark on a journey of scientific exploration! Physics is a captivating subject taught in our school, and we are committed to providing a holistic education that nurtures curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for scientific discovery among our students.
Vision:
Our vision is to empower students to become proficient in physics by fostering a deep understanding of its principles, theories, and applications. We strive to create a dynamic learning environment that promotes scientific inquiry, analytical skills, and innovative problem-solving methods.
Mission:
Our mission is to develop a strong foundation in physics for both Ordinary and Advanced Level students.
We aim to inspire and engage students, enabling them to excel academically while nurturing their scientific curiosity and instilling a lifelong love for the subject. Through effective teaching methodologies and hands-on experiences, we strive to equip our students with the necessary skills to succeed in future scientific endeavours. Physics is taught in both O and A level with clearly defined objectives in all levels.
Objectives – Ordinary Level:
- To provide a comprehensive understanding of the core concepts and principles of physics.
- To develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in relation to real-life scenarios.
- To cultivate an appreciation for the role of physics in everyday life, technology, and the environment.
- To prepare students for national, standardized examinations at the Ordinary Level.
Objectives – Advanced Level:
- To deepen understanding and strengthen knowledge in advanced physics concepts and theories.
- To enhance analytical and practical skills required for higher education and scientific research.
- To foster an appreciation for the interdisciplinary nature of physics and its significance in cutting-edge technological advancements.
- To prepare students for national, standardized examinations at the Advanced Level.
Projects – Lower Secondary Curriculum:
- Energy Conservation Challenge: Students engage in a project focused on promoting energy conservation within the school community. Through energy audits, data analysis, and awareness campaigns, students explore various aspects of energy usage and conservation, developing an understanding of energy transfer, efficiency, and sustainability.
- Simple Machines Design: Students apply their understanding of simple machines to design and build practical devices that make everyday tasks more manageable. Through hands-on experimentation, they explore concepts of force, work, and mechanical advantage, fostering creativity and practical problem-solving skills.
- These projects exemplify our commitment to promoting interactive, inquiry-based learning experiences, where students can apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations and develop critical scientific skills.
We invite you to explore our website and discover further details about the exciting projects, engaging curriculum, and enriching experiences offered by the Physics Department at Archbishop Flynn Secondary School Join us on this remarkable journey of scientific exploration and harness the power of physics to shape a better future.
To accomplished all the above, the department is well equipped with nine highly qualified graduate teachers, very motivated and always willing to work with students. Besides that the physics laboratory is also well stocked for practical aspect.
As if that is not enough, physics books are also in plenty, enough for our learners and the department is also linked with ICT department where students go and do research to further their understanding.
Our teaching and mode of instructions includes; classroom teaching, project works, seminars, practical among others.
