About Us

The Archbishop of St. Paul Minneapolis in Minnesota, his Grace Archbishop John Harry Flynn and his members of the congregation played a very tremendous role in the birth of this school. This explains why the school is called ARCHBISHOP FLYNN SECONDARY SCHOOL. This was meant to acknowledge and honor the good will of the Christians of the Archdiocese of St. Paul Minneapolis in the US. We shall forever be grateful for this gift of the American people to the people of Uganda. We shall ceaselessly remember our dear Director Msgr. Mathew Odong for all the struggles and perseverance in ensuring that the school was established. With his love, he has touched and positively transformed the lives of many; young and old.

About us

Archbishop Flynn secondary school is a PRIVATE CATHOLIC Church founded secondary school located in Olwornguu village in Pader town council. It is 2 kilometres away from Pader town along Latanya road. This school admits both boys and girls in ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels. It is purely a boarding school. The idea of starting this school began back in 1995 when the very Rev. Msgr. Mathew Odong thought of starting a school of quality in Pader district. The idea was blessed and reinforced by his Grace, the Archbishop of St. Paul Minneapolis in Minnesota- USA, his Grace the Archbishop of Gulu his Grace John Baptist Odama as well as the community of Olwornguu in 2002 at the peak of the civil wars in northern Uganda.

As the civil wars dragged on, the community got more concerned and desperate about the future of their children in this country. With the displacement of more than 80{de9d7a9ada98e86e848fd8f2e8480edcd3b037f66a7a4313ac9c31870544c5de} of the population into the internally displaced persons’ camps (IDPs) in Pader district, the education system practically collapsed. Most parents could not afford to send their children to school in other peaceful Districts because they could not afford. The exceptionally few ones who could afford found it extremely difficult and dangerous to send their children to other District as the Lord’s Resistance Army ambushes claimed innocent lives along the roads. Caught up in this dilemma, many parents were pessimistic about their children’s future.

Their only hope in educating their children was in the hands of the Catholic Church, specifically in the office of the Archbishop of Gulu. The very Rev. Msgr. Mathew Odong who is also the Vicar General of Gulu Archdiocese took the appeal and concerns of the parents seriously. He practically started linking up with friends in the US to ensure that hope was restored to the people of Northern Uganda through Education.
