Background
Archbishop Flynn Rural Development Education Centre (AFRUDEC) is a sustainability project for Archbishop Flynn Secondary School (AFSS). AFRUDEC is registered with Uganda Registration Service Bureau (URSB) with Certificate of Incorporation – Registration No. 80034714329804 under Section 18(3) of the Companies Act 2012). Its operations commenced in 2017 focusing on food security for AFSS, commercial agriculture, community transformation and a one-stop centre for research and development in Pader district. The farm promotes crop and animals production as well helps educate students and the rural farmers within the project area.
Location
AFRUDEC Farm is located 26 kms off Pader Town Council -Latanya road.
About AFRUDEC
AFRUDEC contributes to the sustainability of the AFSS through agriculture and transformation of the rural community through professional trainings on appropriate modern and mechanized farming methods. It is agribusiness farm that specializes in large scale crops and animal production, apiculture and aquaculture. It helps educate students and the rural farmers and acts as a one-stop center for Research and Development (R&D) in Northern Uganda, particularly in Pader district with a zero waste (Throw Nothing Out of the Farm) principles and practices. It is intended for rural farmers to transform from traditional subsistence agriculture into a medium and large scale commercial agriculture; a solution to unemployment as well as poverty reduction.

Purpose of the farm
To promote food production and economic sustainability through agriculture at Archbishop Flynn Secondary School (AFSS) and the community around by the year 2025
Specific objectives
- To provide food security for the school and the neighbouring community
- To promote commercial agriculture through transformation from subsistence to commercial agriculture
- To transform the rural community by providing opportunity to learn and adopt appropriate agricultural technologies.
- To develop into a one-stop centre for research that links farmers to other Research and Development Institutions.
Approaches
AFRUDEC approach to the given challenges offers intervention in large scale agricultural production, value chain development, value addition, market linkages and marketing. AFRUDEC produces enough food and the AFSS buys from AFRUDEC (produce and buy within the institution), a symbiosis relationship for sustainability
