Faculty Objectives
The aims and objectives of the faculty and its activities are guided by the core components of its mission of contributing to the health and socioeconomic well-being of the nation through the following objectives:
- To promote a high quality of teaching and learning experience for both students and staff, whilst adopting the most appropriate teaching and learning methods that offers students choice, flexibility and inter-professional opportunities.
- To prepare and support healthcare practitioners to engage with lifelong learning and reflective practice that will promote high standards in evidence-based practice.
- To prepare students with sufficient theoretical scientific knowledge base, practical skills and technological competences that enable them assume professional positions at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of health care.
- To assist students in the development of interpersonal skills necessary to function as members of the health team.
- To work in partnership with service users, health care providers and agencies mainly in the Northern region of Nigeria, but also nationally and internationally on health care research, education and scholarship.
- To engage with scholarship and research applied to health care policy and practice, in order to evaluate, develop and wherever possible improve professional practice.
Office of the Dean
The Dean of the Faculty oversees departments and academic programmes in the Faculty. The Dean supervises and approves all faculty searches and departmental hiring plans; works with Faculty Board committees on appointment and promotion of staff; academic issues and initiatives; serves as the faculty’s advocate within the University; and is a member of the University Management.

The Head of Department (HoD) is responsible and accountable for setting and advancing the academic strategy of the Department in line with Faculty and University strategic plans and direction. The office of the HoD lead, manage and develop the department to ensure it achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities.

The mission of the DMS is to impart knowledge and skill based training through exemplary teaching, innovative research, and patient-centered clinical practice, to graduate globally competent professionals to meet the healthcare needs of Niegrians and beyond.
In pursuing its mission, the Department shall focus on achieving the following objectives:
- To providing knowledge and skill-based training to create qualified and competent technical personnel in the discipline of medical sciences.
- To design courses of vocational and innovative nature in the areas of interdisciplinary clinical sciences.
- To promote translational research integrating basic and medical sciences.

The most pressing and complicated health challenges facing the global community require a transdisciplinary approach from global health leaders. The Department of Public and Environmental Health (DPEH) of NUM was established to prepare students with knowledge and skills to lead sustainable action, shape public and environmental health policy, and pursue jobs in public and environmental health practice, academia, advocacy, and medicine.
Through our programmes of study, research, policy analysis and practices, the faculty strives to educate, challenge and inspire tomorrow’s leaders in public and environmental health.

Mission & Objectives
The mission of the DEPH is to provide outstanding education to students, working healthcare professionals and and researchers who will use acquired knowledge and skills to improve the health of the people in the community which they will serve.
In pursuing its mission, the Department shall focus on achieving the following objectives:
- to develop and implement a curriculum that emphasizes competencies for working with diverse populations;
- to collaborate with colleagues, communities, organizations, academic institutions, professionals and citizens;
- to strengthen the capacity of health professionals to enhance the health of the public through consultation, skill development and education;
- pursuing high-quality research to strengthen public and environmental health knowledge and interventions; and
- to support the provision of public and environmental health services to the community.
